Chat is where you talk to Connie, the AI assistant built into your workspace. You describe what you want in plain language (“find 50 SaaS founders in Berlin and add them to a list”) and Connie does the work, using your Records, connected apps and the workspace’s Tools and Skills. Where: left sidebar → Chat · https://connie.ai/<workspace-id>/chat You can also open a chat beside the page you’re working on with the Ask Connie button (the AI Copilot panel, see below). For how workspace URLs work, see Navigating Connie.

What Connie can do in a chat

  • Search, count and analyse your Records, and create or update People, Companies, Deals and Tasks.
  • Find new leads with Lead Finder.
  • Build Workflows. Connie leaves them as drafts until you ask it to turn them on.
  • Read your Inbox and send email, LinkedIn and WhatsApp messages from your connected accounts.
  • Search and read websites, and work in a browser through the Connie Chrome extension.
  • Run code.
  • Generate images, video and audio.
  • Create pages, files and small web apps for you. These are called artifacts.
  • Run instructions on a schedule inside a chat. See Scheduled tasks.
Before anything risky or paid (sending a message, deleting data, spending credits, changing many records), Connie stops and asks you. See Approvals in chat.

Start a chat

1

Open a new chat

Click Chat in the left sidebar, or click New chat (the pencil icon) next to Recent chats. An empty chat shows What should we work on?
2

Type what you want

Type in the message box (it says Work with Connie) and press Enter or click Send. Below the box you’ll see up to three suggested skill cards; clicking one inserts that skill’s /command for you.
3

Follow along

Connie replies and shows each step it takes. The first message creates the chat: it appears under Recent chats and the address changes to https://connie.ai/<workspace-id>/chat?id=..., which you can bookmark or send to a teammate who has access.
You can keep typing while Connie is replying. The box says Type to queue next message… and your messages are sent in order when the reply finishes. See Queued messages.

Give Connie context with @mentions

An @mention points Connie at a specific item so it doesn’t have to guess. For example, mentioning a list gives Connie that list’s columns and contents for this message.
1

Open the Add menu

Type @ in the message box, or click + at the left of the box.
2

Pick a category

Choose Records (lists and objects, plus single People, Companies and Deals), Automations, Inbox (conversations), Tasks or Calls. Suggested apps and tools appear under Connectors.
3

Search and select

Recent items show first. Type at least 2 characters to search everything. The item is added to your message as a mention.
You can mention lists and objects, individual People, Companies and Deals, workflows, Inbox conversations, tasks, calls, tools, connected apps and MCP servers.

Use a skill with /

A skill is a saved set of instructions (and often tools) for a specific job, like “ICP to LinkedIn Search”. Using one tells Connie exactly how to do that job.
1

Type / at the very start of your message

A Skills list opens with up to 8 matches. Your workspace’s own skills appear first, then Connie’s built-in skills.
2

Pick a skill

Use the arrow keys and press Enter or Tab, or click it. Press Esc to close the list.
3

Add your request after the command and send

The skill’s instructions and tools are loaded for that message.
If nothing matches you’ll see “No matching skills”. Check the command name, or press Esc to send your text as a normal message. Disabled skills don’t appear. To create your own, see Create and share skills.

Choose tools (optional)

You don’t have to pick tools. Connie finds the right tool on its own from everything enabled in your workspace: built-in tools, connected apps and your own MCP servers. A tool set to Disabled in tool permissions is never run. To point Connie at a specific tool, account or workflow:
1

Open Add tools

Click Tools under the message box (full-page chat only), or + → Browse tools.
2

Find the tool

Search (Search tools…) or browse a category such as Suggestions, My accounts, Enrichment or LinkedIn.
3

Add it

Click Add to chat. Tools, workflows and records are added as mentions on your current message. Connected accounts and the Inbox Messages / Email Threads options are on/off switches that are saved when you close the dialog.

Attach files

Click + → Document, drag a file anywhere onto the chat (“Drop your file anywhere in this panel to attach it.”), or paste an image. You must type a message too: attachments can’t be sent on their own (“Add a message to send”). Supported types:
  • Documents and data: PDF, DOCX, TXT, Markdown, CSV, TSV, XLSX, JSON, JSONL, NDJSON, LOG
  • Images: JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, WEBP
  • Code and web files: HTML, CSS, JS, TS, Python, SQL, YAML, XML, SVG and most other code files
  • Video: MP4, M4V, WEBM, MOV
  • Audio: MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG
Old Excel .xls files can’t be read. Save them as .xlsx first. Files you attached earlier in a chat stay available to Connie for later messages in that chat.

Talk instead of typing

  • Dictate: click the microphone (full-page chat only). Speak for up to 3 minutes, then click Stop and transcribe to put the text in the message box, or Send voice message to send it straight away. Cancel voice input throws the recording away. Your browser will ask for microphone permission the first time.
  • Voice mode: click Voice to have a live spoken conversation with Connie. It can use the same tools as in text chat. Until you’ve sent something once, each thing you say is shown with Send / Discard so you can confirm Connie heard you right. Use Mute microphone to pause, and End voice mode (or Esc) to stop. Voice mode uses credits while the session is live.
Voice mode is unavailable while Connie is still replying, or while a teammate is using a shared chat.

Stop, edit, retry and give feedback

  • Stop a reply: while Connie is working, Send becomes Stop. Click it or press Esc. A stopped reply shows “Response was interrupted” with Try again and Edit.
  • Edit a message you sent: hover the message and click Edit, change it, then click Send (or press ⌘/Ctrl+Enter). If later messages exist, Connie asks “Remove the later messages?”. Choosing Send and remove deletes everything after that message for good.
  • Copy a reply: click Copy message.
  • Rate a reply: click Helpful or Not helpful. “Not helpful” asks “What went wrong?” (Wrong or made up, Didn’t do what I asked, Missing details, Unexpected action, Other) with an optional note. This helps us improve Connie.

Queue messages while Connie is working

Anything you send while Connie is replying waits above the box as “Queued: …”. You can edit or remove a queued message, or drag it to change the order. If a message fails, it shows “Not sent: …” with Retry. If your last message didn’t go through, the queue pauses (“Paused: your last message didn’t go through.”) until you click Send now or retry it.

Ask Connie in a side panel (AI Copilot)

The AI Copilot panel lets you chat with Connie without leaving the page you’re on, for example while looking at a list or building a workflow. Where: the Ask Connie button at the top of a Records list or object, the workflow builder, and Analytics.
  • The panel header has Recent chats (pick an earlier chat), New chat, Open full screen (moves the same chat to the full Chat page) and Close.
  • Drag the panel’s edge to resize it. Double-click the edge to reset its width.
  • Opening the panel picks up your last chat if you used it in the last 20 minutes. Otherwise it starts a new chat.
  • In the panel, artifacts open on their own page instead of beside the chat; the panel stays open.
  • The panel is not available on the full Chat page or in Settings.

Find and manage your chats

Recent chats in the left sidebar lists your chats, newest activity first. It shows only when you’re on Chat, Tools or Skills. Scroll or click Load more chats to see older ones.
  • Search: click the search icon next to Recent chats and type in Search conversations….
  • Pin: drag a chat into Pinned at the top, or click the chat title → Pin. You can pin up to 8 chats and drag to reorder them. Keyboard: ⌘/Ctrl+↑ pins, ⌘/Ctrl+↓ unpins, ⌘/Ctrl+Shift+↑/↓ reorders.
  • All chats: click Chats in the breadcrumb at the top of any chat to open the full list, with My chats and Shared with me tabs, search, and bulk Star / Delete. Starring a chat there is the same as pinning it. Chats opened from this list open in the side panel; use Open full screen to move them to the full page.

Chat title menu

Click the chat title at the top of a full-page chat: The other buttons at the top right are Chat details (the chat’s scheduled tasks, follow-ups and artifacts) and Share (see Share a chat). They appear once the chat has its first message.
Deleting a chat can’t be undone. It also deletes the pages Connie created in it and turns off the share links for its pages and files. Apps Connie built in the chat are kept.

Credits

Every message uses credits.
  • Connie charges for each AI step it takes, based on how much text it reads and writes, with a minimum of 1 credit per step. One message can take several steps, and long chats cost more per message because Connie rereads the conversation.
  • Tools that cost credits (for example enrichment or Lead Finder) are charged on top. Connie asks before running them; see Approvals in chat. If a paid tool fails, its credits are refunded.
  • Credits are set aside when a message starts and anything unused is given back. In Settings → Logs, chat replies show as “Generated AI response” and returned credits as “Credits refunded · unused reservation”.
  • Connie picks the AI model for you. There’s no model picker.
When the workspace balance is 0 or below, new messages are refused with “Your credit balance is depleted. Go to Settings → Billing to continue.” Add credits or upgrade (see Top-ups and Plans), then click Try again.

Good to know

  • Who can chat: workspace owners, admins and members. Guests can’t run chat messages. See Members and roles.
  • Only the chat’s owner can pin, rename, delete or change sharing. People a chat is shared with can chat in it, duplicate it and export it.
  • Not signed in: visitors who aren’t signed in get one free message, without tools (“Tools require an account. Sign in or create a free account to continue.”).
  • Limits:
  • A link like https://connie.ai/<workspace-id>/chat?prompt=... fills the message box but doesn’t send it. Press Send yourself.
  • Connie remembers your stable preferences across private chats. See Memory.

Troubleshooting

Why: the workspace has no credits left. Fix: an owner or admin adds credits or upgrades in Settings → Billing (see Top-ups). Then click Try again on the message.
Why: there were enough credits to start the reply, but not enough for a paid tool partway through. Fix: add credits, then ask Connie to continue.
Why: you sent more messages than your plan allows in a short time. Fix: wait a minute and try again. Paid plans have higher limits; see Plans.
Why: a single chat can run up to 200 tools. Fix: click Start new chat and carry on there. A fresh chat also works better, because very long chats lose context.
Why: the chat history is too big. Fix: start a new chat. The old one stays readable.
Why: your message is over 50,000 characters. Your draft is kept. Fix: shorten it, or save the text as a file and attach it instead.
Why: 20 AI requests are already running in your workspace (yours and teammates’). Fix: wait for some to finish, then send again.
Why: in a shared chat, only one person’s message runs at a time. You may also see “This chat is busy — another member’s turn is in progress. Wait for it to finish, then send your message.” Fix: wait for your teammate’s reply to finish. Your text is kept.
Why: the same chat is running in another browser tab. Fix: let it finish there, or close the other tab.
Why: Connie is waiting on an approval card. Fix: scroll up and answer the card. See Approvals in chat.
Why: a network hiccup or slow start. The message may still be running. Fix: wait a moment for the answer to appear. Send it again only if nothing shows up.
Why: Connie didn’t retry automatically, to avoid charging you twice. Fix: send the message again.
Why: the stop request couldn’t be confirmed (“The server did not confirm the stop…” or “Could not confirm the stop. Check your connection; the turn may still be running.”). Fix: check your connection and wait. The reply may still finish.
Why: the type isn’t supported, it’s over 50 MB (PDFs: 32 MB), it’s an old .xls file, it’s already attached, or you’ve added 10 files. Fix: convert it (for example .xls to .xlsx), compress or split it, or send it in a separate message. If you see “Upload failed. Remove this file and try again.”, remove it and attach it again.
Why: your browser can’t record audio, or no microphone is found or allowed. Fix: use a recent Chrome or Edge, connect a microphone, and allow microphone access for connie.ai in your browser’s site settings.
Why: the recording was silent. Fix: check the right microphone is selected and try again, or type your message.
Why: only the person who started the chat can change it. Fix: ask the chat’s owner.
Why: it only shows on the Chat, Tools and Skills pages. Fix: click Chat.
Why: the panel only resumes your last chat if you used it in the last 20 minutes. Fix: pick the chat from Recent chats in the panel header.
