# Memory

> See, add, edit and delete what Connie remembers about how you like to work, and turn memory on or off for the workspace.

Memory lets Connie remember your stable preferences and habits across chats, so you don't have to repeat them. For example, if you keep asking for short answers or always keep new workflows as drafts, Connie notes that and follows it next time. You can see everything Connie remembers about you, and change or delete any of it.

**Where:** **Settings** → **AI & memory** · `https://connie.ai/<workspace-id>/settings?tab=intelligence`

## How Connie learns

* As you chat, Connie picks out lasting preferences and working habits from **your own messages** and saves them as short notes. This happens in the background after you've sent a few messages.
* Connie uses and learns personal memories only in your **private chats**: chats you started and haven't shared. In a chat shared with teammates, your personal memories aren't used, and nothing new is learned about you.
* Each person's memories are private to them in that workspace. Teammates can't see or use yours, and you don't see theirs.
* Memory only shapes how Connie works with you. It never gives Connie permission to run a tool, use an account or skip an [approval](/chat/approvals).

## See what Connie remembers

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open AI & memory">
    Open **Settings** (see [Navigating Connie](/navigating-connie)), then click **AI & memory** under **Workspace**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Browse the Memories list">
    Each memory shows its text and details:

    * A category: **Identity**, **Preference**, **Project fact**, **Relationship**, **Constraint** or **Flow** (how you like workflows to be built or run).
    * **Personal**, and when it was last updated.
    * **Added by you** if you wrote it, or **From a conversation** if Connie learned it.
    * **Reinforced ×N**: how many times Connie has seen the same preference again.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Search or sort">
    Type in **Search memory...** to filter, or use **Sort by**: **Recently updated**, **Oldest first**, **Title A–Z** or **Most reinforced**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

    The **Add memory** window opens: "Add a brief description or note to help the assistant personalize responses based on your preferences."

  </Step>

    Click **Add memory** (or press ⌘/Ctrl+Enter). You'll see "Memory added". New memories are saved in the **Preference** category; you can change that by editing it.

  </Step>
</Steps>

## Delete all your memories

At the bottom of the page, under **Delete all my memories**, click **Delete all memory**, then **Delete all** in **Delete all your memories?**. This permanently removes everything Connie remembers about **you** in this workspace. It doesn't affect anyone else's memories.

## Turn memory off for the workspace

Workspace owners and admins can switch off memory for everyone.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open AI & memory">
    **Settings** → **AI & memory**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Switch off Memory for this workspace">
    "When off, the assistant stops learning and using memory for everyone in the workspace." You'll see "Memory disabled for the workspace".
  </Step>
</Steps>

While it's off, the page shows "Memory is turned off for the whole workspace. Existing memories are kept but not used until it's turned back on." Switch it on again to resume.

## Good to know

* **Who can do what:** everyone can view, add, edit and delete their **own** memories. Only owners and admins can turn **Memory for this workspace** on or off. Others see "Only an admin or owner can change this setting" when they hover the switch.
* **Per workspace:** memories belong to you in one workspace. If you're in several workspaces, each has its own.
* **How many:** Connie keeps up to 40 memories per person per workspace. When it learns something new and the list is full, the new memory replaces the least useful one.
* **What's always used:** memories you add or edit yourself are always used. Connie only learns preferences and working habits on its own; facts like your role or company are only used if you add them.
* **Agents** don't use your personal memories. [Agents](/automations/agents) keep their own memory.
* **Credits:** learning new memories uses a small amount of credits. It shows in **Settings** → **Logs** as "Extracted memories". See [Credits](/billing/credits).
* What you tell Connie in the current chat always wins over a saved memory.

## Troubleshooting

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Connie isn't remembering my preferences">
    **Why:** memory may be off for the workspace, you're in a shared chat, or you haven't sent enough messages yet for Connie to pick it up. **Fix:** check **Settings** → **AI & memory**. Use a private chat, or add the preference yourself with **Add a memory**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Connie is using something wrong or outdated about me">
    **Why:** a saved memory is wrong or no longer true. **Fix:** find it with **Search memory...** and use **Edit memory** or **Delete memory**. To start over, use **Delete all memory**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="A memory in my list doesn't seem to be used">
    **Why:** some older notes Connie saved on its own are listed but not used. **Fix:** open it with **Edit memory** and click **Save**. Memories you've edited are always used.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The Memory for this workspace switch is greyed out">
    **Why:** only workspace owners and admins can change it. **Fix:** ask an owner or admin. See [Members and roles](/workspace/members-and-roles).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Could not update workspace memory setting">
    **Why:** the change didn't save. **Fix:** reload the page and try again.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="My teammate can't see the same memories as me">
    **Why:** memories are personal. Each person only sees and uses their own. **Fix:** nothing is wrong. Each person can add their own preferences.
